Sky Vision has secured a raft of deals, including a sale to BBC Worldwide, for the adventure series Arabia with Levison Wood.

The five-part series also sold to Discovery Networks in Asia Pacific. Other territories that Sky Vision secured deals for include Australia, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Poland, Israel, New Zealand, Croatia, Latvia and Hong Kong. The new series airs on Discovery UK on Thursday, June 27, at 9 p.m.

Arabia with Levison Wood follows as the eponymous explorer, writer and photographer tells the story of the Middle East through its people. The eclectic cast of characters he meets includes Syrian grandmothers, Iraqi snipers, shepherds, drug dealers, freedom fighters and nomads, all against a backdrop of majestic landscapes and ancient histories. Wood crosses deserts, dodges warzones and follows in the footsteps of great explorers as he depicts the cultural diversity of the Middle East.

Wood’s production company Blackmane Media produces, with the series co-funded by Sky Vision, who acquired international distribution rights from Blackmane’s agent, Wolfsong Media.

Niki Page, head of factual and factual entertainment acquisitions at Sky Vision, said: “Lev is a veteran traveler and his journey through Arabia is his most challenging and engaging series to date. We’re delighted that it has sold so well internationally and appeals to such a wide global audience.”

Wood added: “Filming Arabia was a dream come true. I first travelled to the Middle East 15 years prior, so this was a great opportunity to see how it has changed in that time. It’s one of the most misunderstood regions of the world, so it’s exciting that Sky Vision is able to distribute the series to an immense global audience.”

Jo Cantello, director of Wolfsong Media, said: “We’re thrilled by the success Arabia is enjoying so far and to have Sky Vision on board. We can’t wait to share the series with Lev’s supporters worldwide.”
