Serial Maven Acquires WWII Doc from Impossible Factual

Impossible Factual’s WWII series Liberation: D-Day to Berlin has been acquired by Serial Maven.

“The painstaking research behind the restoration and colorization of footage for this series, and brilliant work by our VFX partners at Gelato VFX, has produced an extraordinarily immersive experience for the viewer that never sacrifices authenticity,” said Jonathan Drake, executive producer for Impossible Factual. “It’s gripping and visceral storytelling that we hope will be a touchstone for years to come–and will continue to outshine AI imitations!”

Produced for National Geographic, in association with Paramount for the U.S. market and pre-sold to SBS Australia, the documentary revisits the liberation of Western Europe and the fall of Nazi Germany through restored and expertly colorized archival footage.

Executive producers for the series are Drake and Steve Maher, who also serves as creative director. Rosalind Bain serves as producer.

“Across global markets, audiences are gravitating toward documentaries that provide context, perspective and truth, and history feels especially resonant right now,” said Solange Attwood, founder and CEO, Serial Maven Studios. “Liberation stands out for its historical clarity and cinematic craft. By restoring this archive so vividly, the series reminds us that history isn’t abstract. It’s lived, it’s human and its lessons continue to matter. We’re proud to be bringing a title of this caliber to buyers worldwide.”
