Plimsoll Productions Launches Immersive Division

Plimsoll Productions has launched the new division Plimsoll Immersive, led by Alex Ranken, creative director of natural history, to develop original content and leverage the company’s existing IP for immersive experiences.

“Plimsoll has always looked to the future, and Alex represents what comes next—a next-generation creator whose innovative storytelling and command of technology make him the perfect fit to grow this division and propel the company into an exciting new space,” said Mark Brownlow, head of natural history. “Alex will build on Plimsoll’s experience in 3D storytelling, which has already seen the recent release of Horse Power, a 3D IMAX film.”

Over the last five years at Plimsoll, Ranken has directed and produced multiple series, including Tiny World for Apple and A Real Bug’s Life for Disney+. He also has credits for The Wild Ones (Apple TV) and A Year on Planet Earth (ITV).

Ranken will continue to create content for traditional broadcast television while leading the new immersive unit.

“Plimsoll has a reputation for visually rich, bold storytelling and editorial integrity,” Ranken commented. “We are now applying those elements in this exciting new world, allowing audiences to be immersed in the story, which ultimately fosters deeper connections and engagement with the natural world.”
