Congress ’22 Set for Live Event in Glasgow

The World Congress of Science and Factual Producers (WCSFP) has confirmed that its 30th annual Congress is slated for late 2022 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Congress ’22, an international industry event for science, history and natural history content creators, broadcasters and platform executives, will mark the return to a live in-person gathering after two years of going virtual. The event is supported by host sponsor BBC Studios Productions and will coincide with BBC’s centenary.

Congress ’22 will offer a full slate of conference panels and speakers exploring the latest programming trends, industry intelligence and technology impacting the factual community. There will also be Close Encounters of the Funding Kind sessions that feature presentations by broadcast and platform decision-makers and Speed Dating one-on-one curated pitch meetings. Further, Congress ’22 will mark the return of social events, taking advantage of the city of Glasgow for further networking.

Paul Lewis, conference director for WCSFP, said: “It’s been 15 years since Congress was in Manchester, and our return to the U.K. is long overdue. It’s such an incredible hub for creative and innovative factual programming and the ideal place for our community to gather in person after two years apart to get reinvigorated and inspired. We’re thrilled to be working with our long-time supporter BBC Studios Productions to bring Congress ’22 to Glasgow and to celebrate the BBC’s centenary.”

Tom McDonald, managing director of factual for BBC Studios Productions, added: “I’m so delighted that we’re able to support Congress coming to Glasgow during a milestone year for the BBC. Glasgow is a thriving home for specialist factual programming with brilliant indies, big and small, and world-class creative and production talent based in the city. It feels extra special that BBC Studios Productions is the host sponsor for the first in-person congress since 2019, for what will not just be a celebration of the BBC’s birthday and a chance to celebrate the independent production sector in the city but hopefully a memorable reunion of colleagues and friends from all around the world.”
