A&E Hit Live PD Dropped Amid Police Brutality Protests

The hit unscripted show Live PD has been canceled by A&E Network, as ongoing protests against police brutality continue to sweep the U.S. and elsewhere.

“This is a critical time in our nation’s history and we have made the decision to cease production on Live PD,” A&E said. “Going forward, we will determine if there is a clear pathway to tell the stories of both the community and the police officers whose role it is to serve them. And with that, we will be meeting with community and civil rights leaders as well as police departments.”

The live show, which followed police officers across the U.S. during a typical night shift in real time, was taken off the air last week out of respect for the family of George Floyd, who was killed at the hands of police and whose death has led to widespread protests about policing and racial injustice. Originally, executive producer and host Dan Abrams told fans on Twitter that the show would return, but has since tweeted: “Shocked & beyond disappointed about this. To the loyal #LivePDNation please know I, we, did everything we could to fight for you, and for our continuing effort at transparency in policing. I was convinced the show would go on.”
