Smithsonian Channel has launched in Brazil as it continues to grow its international presence.

The network’s linear and VOD services are now available in HD on NET channel. The launch in Brazil follows on the heels of Smithsonian Channel’s rollout in the U.K. and Ireland earlier this year. It’s also available in Latin America, Canada and Singapore. The network’s programming includes factual titles that cover history, travel, air and space, science, nature and pop culture.

Smithsonian Channel partnered with media company Grupo Bandeirantes de Comunicacao on the launch. The group will handle operations management, scheduling, ad sales, affiliate sales and marketing advisory for the network in Brazil.

Tom Hayden, president of Smithsonian Networks, said: “Smithsonian Channel has been embraced internationally by non-fiction entertainment lovers at an increasing pace that surprises even us. After rolling out in Latin America last year and the U.K. and Ireland this past February, we’re excited to enter into the massively important media market of Brazil and are already commissioning new programming that draws on Brazilian talent.”
