White Boy Joins Starz’s Documentary Slate

Starz has acquired the observational documentary White Boy, based on the story of Richard Wershe, Jr., who is the focus of the upcoming feature film White Boy Rick with Matthew McConaughey.

Wershe allegedly ran a sophisticated underground cocaine operation throughout inner-city Detroit. Arrested as a teen and sentenced to life without parole, Wershe remains in prison 30 years later. Directed by Shawn Rech, the documentary White Boy follows filmmakers as they interview journalists, police, FBI agents and hit men to learn more about Wershe. White Boy will premiere on Starz in spring 2019.

The film White Boy Rick premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and opens in U.S. theaters on September 14. Starz will also premiere the feature film in summer 2019.
