DISCOP Johannesburg, which is taking place November 20 to 22, will feature a strong emphasis on African television projects in development, partnerships with South Africa and the animation sector.

A newly revamped and focused DISCOP Joburg program promises a scope that “goes beyond content buying and selling,” the organizers said, and that includes a sidebar program of panel discussions and masterclasses.

This DISCOPRO program will see more than 50 speakers on stage for panel discussions headlined by a series of masterclasses and a panel discussion led by experts from around the world sponsored by The Africa Channel. The sessions will address how independent producers can export their content and best adapt to the fast-paced world of multicultural television. Four sessions will provide a course of study on what makes a project aimed at multicultural audiences actually sell in today’s challenging environment.

The DISCOPRO speaker lineup includes execs from broadcasters from across Africa such as Ethiopia’s Kana TV, the SABC, Royal Media from Kenya and others. Companies such as Côte Ouest, WarnerMedia, Turner Africa and Fox studios will also be represented in the DISCOPRO lineup.

DISCOPRO Program Director Andrew Boozer said, “Given the growth predictions of content produced in Africa, this years’ program will address how producers, writers, directors can best adapt in this fast-paced multiscreen and cross-border world and highlight how Africa can play an influential role in tomorrow’s global content production and distribution industry.”
