HELSINKI: Finland’s YLE and Switzerland’s SRF have jointly commissioned season two of the animated preschool series Gigglebug, which will begin production this month.

Finnish animation and games studio Gigglebug Entertainment will produce the upcoming season, which will be distributed by WDR mediagroup. Gigglebug, which targets kids aged 2 to 5 and their families, teaches children about their emotions. The story lines show kids how to be resourceful and not to become discouraged. The series is set in the enchanted Greengown Forest and follows Gigglebug and his animal friends.

“There hasn’t been such a preschool series out of Finland since The Moomins,” said Anttu Harlin, the CEO and producer of Gigglebug Entertainment.

“This series has really found its audience in Finland,” added Kaisa Järnfelt, producer at YLE. “It radiates positive values and Gigglebug’s laughter is contagious.”

“Season two is a true asset in terms of distribution,” Stefanie Fischer, the head of content at WDR mediagroup, remarked. “With a total of 52 episodes, we can now offer a greater variety of Gigglebug’s hilarious stories, which makes the show even more attractive for international program buyers.”

“The creators have crafted a wonderful world with charming characters and smart stories,” added SRF’s Marek Beles.
