Toya Delazy, a musician from South Africa, has signed on as the fourth Powerpuff Girl, due to debut on Cartoon Network later this month.

Delazy had already teamed with Turner to produce and sing an all-African localized theme song for the reboot of The Powerpuff Girls. She is now lending her voice in five special episodes, during which the four superheroes must work together to save Townsville from bigger-than-ever forces of evil. The new character will be unveiled in The Powerpuff Girls: Power of Four, which is set to premiere on Sunday, September 17, at 5:30 p.m.

Delazy remarked: “I have always dreamed of being the voice of a cartoon character. Never did I think I would be recording a voice-over as the new Powerpuff Girl for Cartoon Network, though! In a nutshell, Cartoon Network was my childhood. The shows were always quirky, expressive, creative and cool! I have always appreciated how creative the channel is, even to this day. Watching Cartoon Network really opened my mind as a child, and for me the channel still represents creativity in all aspects of the word. The shows are bold, unexpected, energetic and exciting—definitely a brand that I can identify with and relate to.”

Jaime Ondarza, the senior VP for Southern Europe and Africa at Turner, added: “We at Cartoon Network are so excited by the growth we have seen with Toya Delazy. Toya is definitely a perfect fit as the fourth Powerpuff Girl. She is confident, bubbly and quirky—all the values that we are familiar with, love and appreciate. We have a lot of surprises up our sleeves, so be sure to watch this space. All details are set to be revealed later in September.”
