LOS ANGELES/LONDON: Sky has expanded its short-form digital offering with the acquisition of a package of 70 Badanamu CGI-animated musical video clips for its VOD services, including the Sky Kids app, which launched last March.

The short-form Badanamu animated musical clips first launched online in 2013 and have since been viewed by more than 1.3 billion fans on YouTube, Alibaba, Roku and Tencent. They feature a puppy named Bada and his friends, and the music includes classic nursery rhymes, pop songs and more.

The edutainment property comes from Calm Island and Paris-based LNC Media. Calm Island has developed a range of Badanamu extensions, including 500 mini-games, 20 apps, 300 interactive books, 125 picture and storybooks, a multiplayer online game and a YouTube channel. A brand-new 52-episode preschool series, Badanamu Imagine That!, is in production, with delivery slated for fall 2017.

Lucy Murphy, the head of kids’ content at Sky, said, “Bada and his adorable friends make a great toe-tapping addition to our ever-growing library of short-form digital content on Sky Kids. Nursery rhymes and music are just one of the recent additions to our kids’ entertainment offer and this is an area we are planning to grow by adding short-form content for older kids in the new year.”
