LOS ANGELES: Shout! Factory has inked a deal with DHX Media for the exclusive home-entertainment distribution rights (DVD and Blu-ray) to all 26 episodes of Gwen Stefani’s Kuu Kuu Harajuku in the U.S. and Canada.

Under the multiyear agreement, Shout! Factory is planning a strategic rollout of Kuu Kuu Harajuku this year through its children’s and family imprint Shout! Factory Kids. The fashion-themed, musical animated show, about a girl-led band, aims to promote self-expression and individuality. It currently airs on Nickelodeon in the U.S. and Family Channel in Canada.

Mark Shoeman, the territory manager at DHX Media, commented: “The U.S. market is a huge territory for us and one where Kuu Kuu Harajuku is proving to be widely popular with its audience on Nickelodeon, so it was crucial for us to appoint a strong home-entertainment company in the region. Shout! Factory understands the market, and importantly for us, the kids’ sector, and we feel they are the ideal company to take this highly original series beyond broadcast into DVD.”

“We are incredibly excited about this new relationship with DHX Media and look forward to presenting this imaginative and highly entertaining series on family home-entertainment shelves,” added Melissa Boag, the senior VP of kids’ and family entertainment at Shout! Factory.
