As it expands its slate of family live-action movies featuring kids and teens, Netflix has signed on for an adaptation of J.A. White’s horror-fantasy children’s novel Nightbooks.

Ghost House Pictures’ Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, together with MXN Entertainment’s Mason Novick and Michelle Knudsen, will produce the adaptation of the novel, which was published by Katherine Tegen Books, an imprint of HarperCollins, in 2018. The film is written by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis (Five Feet Apart and The Curse of La Llorona).

The book follows a boy obsessed with scary stories who finds himself trapped by a witch in her magical New York City apartment. The film will add to a live-action family movie slate at Netflix that includes Tall GirlA Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting and Hello, Universe, among others.
