CANNES: Mattel Creations has inked an exclusive agreement with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) Content Group, which is taking worldwide SVOD rights for the Barbie movie catalog for the next seven years.

The deal encompasses the entire Barbie catalog, including the fall’s new release Barbie: StarLight Adventure and next year’s spring movie Barbie: Video Game Hero. The agreement takes effect immediately.

UPHE Content Group already has international theatrical distribution rights to animated made-for-DVD Barbie content, as well as home entertainment and digital distribution rights to the Monster High franchise.

Justin Richardson, the VP of global content distribution and strategy for Mattel Creations, said, “As part of our ubiquitous content strategy, we want to ensure fans can watch Barbie content on multiple platforms whenever they want, so we are delighted to bring Barbie to SVOD platforms around the world, maximizing the distribution power and expertise of UPHE Content Group.”

Helen Parker, the executive VP of UPHE Content Group, added, “Barbie’s content has global appeal and affinity with young fans around the world, so we are delighted to be expanding our global partnership with Mattel even further.”
