New Singaporean Mermaid Show to Debut at MIPCOM

Superprod’s The Co-Production Company and Wheel in Motion are set to launch Syrena’s Mermaid Show in partnership with Singapore’s August Media Group at MIPCOM.

The preschool live-action/animated hybrid series stars Syrena, Singapore’s first professional mermaid, who starred in the Netflix docuseries MerPeople. In each episode of the new show, Syrena acts as a teacher and guide for preschoolers, leading them on magical adventures filled with animated sea creatures and catchy songs.

The show inspires kids to embrace their imagination and builds self-confidence, encouraging them to believe that they can be anything they aspire to be.

The 52×11-minute series is being produced in parallel English and Mandarin versions.

Syrena’s Mermaid Show is created by show runner Lexie Kahanovitz (Frog and Toad, City Island). Music supervision is by Ego Plum (The Patrick Star Show, SpongeBob SquarePants). Singaporean star composer Ricky Ho is producing original Chinese-language songs for the series.

“Syrena is a unique talent—a home-bred Singaporean star—and we are thrilled to bring her to a global audience,” said Jyotirmoy Saha, executive producer at August Media. “With this talented team in London and the U.S. and supported by other top talent from southeast Asia behind the production, we’re confident that the show will captivate children and families across the world.”

“With Syrena, we wanted to create a captivating world that speaks to the imagination of preschoolers,” explained Alexi Wheeler, executive director and producer from Wheel in Motion. “The mermaids and their underwater realm provide a magical backdrop that immediately draws young children’s attention, inviting them to explore, dream and learn through adventures filled with kindness.”

Doug Schwalbe, executive producer from The Co-Production Company, added, “Working with Moy and his team has been a wonderful collaboration. Their expertise in creating authentic Chinese programming, combined with the magical music of Ricky Ho, makes this project truly special.”
