CBBC has commissioned a fifth season of the sitcom So Awkward, as well as a special miniseries featuring characters from the show.

The season five order comes prior to the premiere of So Awkward season four. The fifth season of the show, which was created by Channel X North, is slated to air in 2019 for an extended 13×30-minute run.

Additionally, CBBC ordered a new miniseries, The So Awkward Files. It will feature characters from So Awkward reflecting on their time at Cranmede High. The So Awkward Files will be released on BBC iPlayer and CBBC in early 2019 between the transmission of seasons four and five.

Season four returns to CBBC later this summer. The show was created by Julie Bower. Sally Martin serves as script producer, and the series producer is Jo Blake for Channel X North.

Alan Marke, the managing director of Channel X, said, “It’s great to have a new series of So Awkward commissioned before the release of series four. So Awkward has gone from strength to strength and relates to so many teen experiences. We’re excited to see where the show can go next!”
