Disney+ has acquired the global rights to a contemporary adaptation of Anna Sewell’s 19th-century novel Black Beauty, produced by Constantin Film and JB Pictures.

The feature stars Mackenzie Foy (Interstellar) as Jo Green, Iain Glen (Game of Thrones), Claire Forlani (Meet Joe Black) and Kate Winslet, who provides the voice of Black Beauty. Black Beauty is slated to bow on the Disney+ streaming platform later this year.

In Black Beauty, the titular wild mustang is born free in the American West, but is then rounded up and taken away from her family. Her story intertwines with that of a teenager, Jo Green, who is grieving the loss of her parents, leading the two to develop a bond with love, trust and healing. Ashley Avis (Adolescence) has written the screenplay and directed the movie.
