Disney Branded Television has ordered Saturdays, a new roller-skating coming-of-age comedy series from actress and producer Marsai Martin (black-ish, Little) and her Genius Productions company.

The series centers on teenage Paris Johnson, who lives and breathes roller-skating and spends her weekends at the neon-lit roller-rink Saturdays. Throughout the series, she works to become a Golden—a member of the rink’s skating elite.

Danielle Jalade (Yes Day) stars in the lead role, alongside cast members Omar Gooding (Family Time), Golden Brooks (Girlfriends), Jermaine Harris (The Map of Tiny Perfect Things) and Daria Johns (Nappily Ever After).

Saturdays will be executive produced by creator and writer Norman Vance Jr. (Roll Bounce, Girlfriends), Marsai Martin, Nicole Dow and Joshua and Carol Martin (Little). Marsai, Joshua and Carol Martin founded Genius Productions to create compelling stories for television, features and digital. Marsai became the youngest person ever to executive produce a major studio feature film with Little.

Production for Saturdays is scheduled to begin in May 2022.

“We’re thrilled to be in business with Marsai, Norman, Nicole, Joshua and Carol in bringing this adventure to our viewers,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “We know that audiences will fall in love with Paris, her friends and her family as they share in the love, laughter and music in this fun-filled world of roller-skating.”
