NEW DELHI: As part of its push for local content, Discovery Kids in India is launching its second series produced in the country.

Sheikh Chilli & Friendz is slated to premiere on Discovery Kids in India in early 2017. The series follows the adventures of an innocent boy named Sheikh Chilli and his friends Malika, Bulbul, Khatkoo and Noorie Djinn, who has come from another planet to fulfill Sheikh Chilli’s wishes. The evil witch Buri creates trouble for the group of friends when she tries to take a necklace from Noorie Djinn.

The Sheikh Chilli & Friendz franchise was introduced to children on TV through a movie that aired early in the year on Discovery Kids. The series has been conceptualized and created in partnership with the Mayapuri group and iRealities Entertainment. Discovery Kids India has already had success with local content such as KisnaBilloo Bhai and Little Krishna.

Rajiv Bakshi, the VP of entertainment products in South Asia at Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, said, “Sheikh Chilli & Friendz would be one of the most endearing series on Indian television. Each character has been crafted to offer unmatched entertainment and will reset the narrative of kids’ content. Nothing stimulates [the] mind more than an overwhelming emotion of humor and this series will offer it in abundance.”
