Dino Girl Gauko Animated Series Greenlit at Netflix

Netflix has ordered the kids’ animated comedy series Dino Girl Gauko from the creator and showrunner Akira Shigino (Crayon Shin-chanLine TownOsomatsu-kun and Yatterman).

The Netflix original series is set in Japan and centers on a tween named Naoko Watanabe, who has a unique gift and a curse. When Naoko’s anger reaches its highest point, she turns into her fire-breathing dinosaur girl alter ego Gauko. An episode of Dino Girl Gauko will screen in competition at the 2019 Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The series’ first season is slated to launch on Netflix later this year.

Written by Kimiko Ueno and produced by Hitoshi Mogi, Dino Girl Gauko is joining Netflix’s growing catalog of animated children’s series hailing from around the world, including Mighty Little Bheem from India’s Green Gold Animation, Larva Island from Korean animation studio TUBAn and YooHoo to the Rescue from Korea’s Aurora World. There’s also the upcoming Mama K’s Team 4 from Zambian writer Malenga Mulendema and Maya and the Three from Mexican creator Jorge Gutierrez.
