Video Interview: Dan Povenmire on Hamster & Gretel

For more than 25 years, Dan Povenmire has been working on some of the most successful and critically acclaimed animation series, including Family Guy, SpongeBob SquarePants and The Simpsons. He co-created and executive produced the five-time Emmy Award-winning series Phineas and Ferb with Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, for which he voiced the zany evil Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz. Most recently, Povenmire created and executive produced the superhero show Hamster & Gretel, about a young girl and her pet hamster who are given superpowers by aliens. The series debuts today, August 12, on Disney Channel and Disney XD, with streaming to come on Disney+.

 

Povenmire talks to TV Kids about the show’s origins, TikTok as a destination for spotting talent and how his 14-year-old daughter Meli came to voice Gretel.
