The BBC preschool channel CBeebies has acquired the linear and FVOD rights to the new puppet series Monty & Co.

From the U.K.-based Pipkins Productions, Monty & Co follows the lives of an eclectic group of characters living above a bring, buy and mend shop, with each episode written as a musical mini-drama. Serious Lunch is representing worldwide rights for the series.

Genevieve Dexter, founder and CEO of Serious Lunch, said: “We are delighted, it has been a long time since the U.K. has produced a homegrown puppet series of this caliber. Young children enjoy intense emotional connection with puppets, and it’s a lovely thing to see.”

Nigel Plaskitt of Pipkins Productions said: “Monty & Co was produced using a unique funding model operating under the U.K.’s Enterprise Investment Scheme and we hope the CBeebies broadcast and Serious Lunch’s will now attract further investment and sales to produce more episodes going forward.”
