ATLANTA: Cartoon Network is hosting a Game Jam for independent developers to extend the brand of the newly launched mobile game OK K.O.! Lakewood Plaza Turbo.

Cartoon Network is launching a Game Jam in Portland, Oregon, from February 12 to 14. The event will see 200 indie game developers create their own games based on OK K.O.! Lakewood Plaza Turbo characters over the course of two days. Their creations will influence future versions of the property, and the winning team will be given a fully funded project to continue work on their prototype. Game Jam honorees will have their projects published on the Cartoon Network website.

OK K.O.! Lakewood Plaza Turbo, an original concept from animator Ian Jones-Quartey (Steven Universe), takes place in a mall for superheroes, where K.O. and his friends must battle an evil villain trying to destroy the plaza with his army of robots. The property is available as a free mobile game for iOS and Android devices. There are also animated shorts that will air on Cartoon Network’s digital platforms, with each short coming from a different animation studio.

“Cartoon Network is no longer just creating series, we are creating animated worlds,” said Rob Sorcher, the chief content officer for Cartoon Network. “OK K.O.! is part of our new development strategy which brings a diverse array of creative and digital talent collaborations to the storytelling process.”
