FremantleMedia has scored five new commissions for the factual reality format The Lie Detective, which debuted on Channel 4 in the U.K. last year.

Created by True North, The Lie Detective looks on as a human lie detector tests the honesty of couples. Adaptations of the show are slated for broadcast on SBS in Belgium, Antenna in Greece, STV Pirmã! in Latvia, RTL 5 in the Netherlands and TV2 in Norway. FremantleMedia handles the format’s global rights outside of the U.S.

Chris O’Dell, the head of global entertainment production at FremantleMedia, said: “We are delighted at the fantastic reception The Lie Detective has received from the international broadcasters. We’re excited to work with them to deliver local versions of the entertainingly honest and distinctly frank format.”

Fiona O’Sullivan, executive producer for True North, added: “It’s great to see The Lie Detective take off in so many territories so quickly. It’s a completely captivating concept with so many universal themes; it will be amazing to see all the hard work everyone has put into its creation and production manifest in these international series.”
