The United Arab Emirates’ Abu Dhabi Media has ordered a second season of The Selfie Challenge, distributed by Dori Media Group (DMG).

The Arabic version of the format pits the UAE against Saudi Arabia, with contestants representing each country competing in 75 challenges across 150 landmarks in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh. “The show is great fun and highly relevant in today’s social media-driven world of viral videos and trending content,” said Nadav Palti, CEO and president of DMG.

Haitham Alkathiri, acting executive director of Abu Dhabi Media’s Abu Dhabi TV, noted, “The first Arab edition of The Selfie Challenge was a resounding success and proved very popular amongst Arab audiences. We are pleased to be cooperating again with Dori Media to present the second edition of the show on Abu Dhabi TV and ADtv app. This move is in line with Abu Dhabi Media’s strategic objectives to enhance our position as a pioneer in digital and entertainment content production, which appeals to audiences in the Arab region.”

Production is currently underway on the second season, with 15 new episodes set to premiere in May. Produced by Highways Arabia, season two will follow the same structure as season one, though Walid Al-Zahran will replace Rayan Al-Ahmari as the leader of Team KSA.

Ilan V. Glam, CEO and head of business development at Studio Glam, the company that created the format, said, “We are delighted that our great format has been ordered for a second season. The Selfie Challenge is contemporary and incorporates the best qualities of reality and game-show formats. It has been said that television speaks the universal language; this show is an excellent example of that, and networks from around the world will find the show very flexible and easily adaptable.”
