BBC Two has commissioned the Banijay UK company Fizz and Nice One TV to produce a second season of Lightning.

Hosted by comic Zoe Lyons, Lightning combines the traditional quiz show with a game show, featuring six challengers battling it out across six rounds while a spotlight patrols the studio eliminating contestants. As they do whatever it takes to stay out of the spotlight, the contestants face quick-fire questions with the aim of winning £3,000 in prize money.

Lightning will return for a further 30 episodes, with filming due to start in Belfast next month.

Lyons said: “I am absolutely delighted that Lightning does indeed strike twice. I can’t wait to meet the next lot of fearless contestants who have the courage and quick thinking to take on the infamous roaming light. It is great to be involved in this brilliant show that clearly was a hit with the viewers in the first series.”

Neale Simpson, creative director of Fizz, added: “We’re thrilled to be back in Belfast making more Lightning for BBC Two with Chris and the brilliant team over in Northern Ireland. Here’s to an electric second series!”

Chris Jones, founder of Nice One, said: “So grateful BBC Daytime is keeping the faith in Lightning, and I couldn’t be happier about working with Fizz and Zoe again.”
