TV Formats Screenings Festival: MIPCOM Edition

Game shows and talent competitions headline the latest edition of the TV Formats Screenings Festival.

The MIPCOM edition of the TV Formats Screenings Festival features selections from All3Media International, Fuji Television Network, Something Special and more.

The Inheritance, a new strategic reality game show from Emmy Award-winning producer Studio Lambert, toplines All3Media International’s highlights for the TV Formats Screenings Festival. “Studio Lambert’s bold new reality competition explores trust and greed, delivering an addictive, insightful and entertaining format that has the power to draw in A-list talent such as Elizabeth Hurley and captivate audiences worldwide,” says Micah Hewson, VP for Australia and New Zealand. Also from Studio Lambert is Rise and Fall, which recently rolled out on Amazon MX Player in India, and Travel Guides. The company continues to see traction on Cash Cab, “a feel-good, hugely entertaining quiz show that is brilliantly easy to play along with,” Hewson says. On the scripted front, Step Dave is a key highlight. The comedy-drama was recently remade in Malaysia.

As part of its year-round efforts to support the Japanese content creation ecosystem globally, the Broadcast Program Export Association of Japan (BEAJ) is returning to MIPCOM to host its Japanese Format Showcase—Treasure Box Japan (TBJ) event. “TBJ has become one of the most important gateways for Japanese content to reach the global stage at the international marketplace,” says Makito (Mak) Sugiyama, BEAJ’s executive director. Ten companies will be showcasing their highlights—Nippon TV, TV Asahi, TBS, TV Tokyo, Fuji TV Network, NHK Enterprises, Yomiuri TV, ABC TV, MBS and Kansai TV—“bringing together an unprecedented lineup of creativity,” Sugiyama says.

Fuji Television Network is showcasing a mix of scripted and non-scripted formats at MIPCOM, including VS School—The Ultimate HIDE and SEEK, a comedic competition show involving celebrities, props and an entire high school. “Since the launch of VS School—The Ultimate HIDE and SEEK in 2023 on the global market, we have received considerable positive feedback on this format,” says Ryuji Komiya, head of international distribution for unscripted formats at Fuji Television Network.

Something Special is highlighting Iron Squad, in which eight teams representing different branches of special forces compete in missions designed by military experts. Martial Arts: The Show sees teams of martial arts experts transform traditional techniques into stage performances. “Blending precision, athleticism and artistry, each team delivers breathtaking displays that audiences have never seen before,” says Jin Woo Hwang, founder, president and executive producer at Something Special.
