Joker Productions Relaunches with Global Focus

Splendid Medien’s Joker Productions is rebranding as Splendid Studios, with a new focus on worldwide expansion and content for young adults.

Splendid Studios is a full-service European indie producer that makes entertainment and original content spanning various platforms and genres. The company plans to increase its originals and development across fiction and non-fiction, expanding the global reach of its formats, factual, scripted and feature films.

Managing Director Julie Link remarked: “In the current climate, it is vital for producers to think globally and to work with the best creators and talent from around the world. Rebranding as Splendid Studios enables us to refocus and refresh our strategy going forward. We have the knowledge of traditional media and the innovation of digital media to create engaging, attention-grabbing, next-generation and original content.”

The first project under the new Splendid Studios is Misfit, a theatrical movie for young adults based on the hit film from the Netherlands. Production has begun on Misfit, which stars Sylvie Meis and Selina Mour, with a German release slated for March 14, 2019. The movie is about a teen girl who feels like an outsider after returning to Germany from the U.S.

Andreas Klein, chairman of the board of management at Splendid Medien, added: “The repositioning and refocusing of the newly branded Splendid Studios will enable us to expand further into international scripted formats for both a theatrical and TV audience. Misfit is an exciting adaptation and is the first deal under our new banner, but we will be announcing a number of new television deals, across both fiction and non-fiction, in the coming months.”
