Ofcom to Investigate Ukip Docudrama Following Complaints

LONDON: Ukip: The First 100 Days, Channel 4's spoof docudrama about Ukip, is being investigated under Ofcom's rules on offensive material, misleadingness and impartiality.

The program is set in a future where Ukip leader Nigel Farage won the U.K.'s 2015 general election to become British prime minister. The docudrama depicted rioting on the streets in the wake of a Ukip victory and combined archive footage with imagined scenes. The show sparked 5,262 complaints to Ofcom and a further 1,300 complaints to Channel 4.

The U.K. media watchdog has now launched an official investigation into the show, to evaluate whether it breached the broadcasting code on three separate grounds: offensive material, misleadingness and due impartiality. Ofcom is also considering fairness and privacy complaints about the program.
