Tern TV Scores BBC Nations Commissions

GLASGOW: Tern TV has been commissioned by BBC Nations—BBC Scotland, BBC Wales and BBC Northern Ireland—to produce more than 22 hours of programming, including more of the long-running gardening show The Beechgrove Garden.

In addition to its recommission of The Beechgrove Garden for 2015, BBC Scotland has ordered Christmas Celebration, a one-off special. The broadcaster also lined up the observational doc The Mountain, which spotlights one of Britain's top ski resorts.

BBC Ireland placed an order for Irish Colleges in Europe, a tentatively titled production, and Wonder Women, a one-off special. The broadcaster is currently airing the eight-part cultural series The Gaitherin.

David Strachan, managing director of Tern TV, noted: "We are pleased to have won a variety of commissions across several genres in our two home nations. Combined with the commissions we have from BBC Network, ITV, Channel 4, Discovery and Sky, this has given us a strong 2014 and we look forward to building in 2015, both in the U.K. and international markets."

Brendan Hughes, head of Tern Belfast and executive producer, added: "It's been a busy year in Belfast with a healthy mix of 6.5 hours local NI programming, and 5.5 for various networks. Finally getting something away from nations to network has been great."
