David Morrissey Sets Up Production Venture

LONDON: David Morrissey (The Walking Dead, The Driver) has aligned with producers Jolyon Symonds (Complicit, The Driver) and James Gay-Rees (Exit Through the Gift Shop, Senna) and director Asif Kapadia (Senna, The Warrior) to launch a new independent production company, On The Corner. 

The outfit will develop scripted and non-scripted content for film and TV. Kapadia and Gay-Rees will head up development for the feature film side, while Symonds and Morrissey will drive scripted content for TV. Mike Ellen joins the company from BBC drama to serve as head of development.

The new venture already has a two-year first-look deal with BBC Worldwide. It also has development deals on a six-part series with Tim Firth and a one-off drama written by Danny Brocklehurst.

Morrissey said: “I have been working as an actor and director for over 30 years and have always been fascinated by all aspects and stages of the industry. Therefore it was a natural progression for me to become involved with the creation of drama from its concept to delivery and beyond. Jolyon and I have worked together since we made a short film called Something for the Weekend in 1995 with the aim of making distinctive and quality drama. And that’s a vision shared by James and Asif.”

Kapadia said: “It is great to be able to share and develop ideas with people who have the same drive and creative aspirations, so setting up On The Corner with David, Jolyon and James is an ideal way of developing ideas whether they are for theatrical release or Television. Our aim is to produce original productions which emotionally engage the audience no matter what medium.”

Gay-Rees added: “We also intend to explore the TV factual space, building on our recent experience on the feature doc side. We want to be bold and innovative across all our output.”
 
Symonds said: “The four of us have diverse experience, which makes working together all the more exciting and rewarding. We are developing a broad range of distinctive projects and our door is open to writers and directors who have strong, original ideas.”
