LONDON: The U.K.’s BBC One has commissioned a full season of its one-off comedy hit Still Open All Hours, set to air later this year.

The show, a sequel to the classic British series Open All Hours, aired as a holiday special last December. It was watched by an average of 9.4 million viewers on its premiere day, making it one of the season’s highest-rated programs.

The season’s six half-hour episodes will be shot on location in Doncaster. Gareth Edwards will produce and Mark Freeland will executive produce for BBC’s in-house comedy division. Roy Clarke, the original show’s writer, returns to pen the updated series.

“The resounding success of the Christmas revival showed the huge and enduring audience affection for this much-loved classic,” said Shane Allen, the controller of BBC comedy commissioning. “Roy has done a terrific job of updating the characters whilst keeping what was warm-hearted and enjoyable about the world of the original series.”
