Winners Named for BAFTA TV Awards

LONDON: The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) TV Awards were handed out last night, in a ceremony that saw Olivia Colman scoring two wins: best supporting actress and best female in a comedy.

The win for lead actor went to Ben Whishaw for Richard II (The Hollow Crown), while Sheridan Smith took the lead actress win for Mrs Biggs. The supporting actor nod went to Simon Russell Beale for Henry IV, Part 2 (The Hollow Crown). Colman’s supporting actress win was for Accused (Mo’s Story).

Alan Carr won for best entertainment performance for Alan Carr: Chatty Man. Colman won the comedy performance award for Twenty Twelve, and Steve Coogan won in the male comedy category for Welcome to the Places of My Life.

The award for best single drama went to Murder and to Room at the Top for mini-series. Last Tango in Halifax was the drama winner. For soap/continuing drama it was EastEnders that came out on top. The U.S. series Girls took the win for best international show.

In factual the winner was Our War, while the specialist factual winner was All in the Best Possible Taste with Grayson Perry. 7/7: One Day in London scored the award for single documentary.

The Great British Bake Off was the night’s winner for features. Made in Chelsea won for reality/constructed factual. The current affairs winner was The Shame of the Catholic Church (This World). ITV/Granada Reports: Hillsborough—The Truth at Last won for best news coverage.

The London 2012 Paralympic Games was the favored sport/live event. The Graham Norton Show was named best entertainment program, while The Revolution Will Be Televised was best comedy. Twenty Twelve was recognized as the best situation comedy.

The Radio Times Audience Award, as voted on by members of the public, went to Game of Thrones.
