Private equity house Key Capital Partners (KCP) has completed a minority investment in Jellyfish Pictures.

Jellyfish provides high-quality animation, visual effects and art department services to clients around the world such as Disney+, Netflix, DreamWorks, Apple TV, HBO, Sky, BBC and Amazon. It has worked on a slate of well-known productions including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Other titles Jellyfish Pictures has worked on are Black Mirror, The Book of Boba Fett, Spirit: Untamed, How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming and two other Star Wars films.

CEO Phil Dobree has grown the company into a global business over the past 20 years, and the KCP deal will help it grow to more than 600 staff this year. Dobree will continue as CEO and will be supported by an executive team supplemented by Lynton Barker as non-executive chairman and Philip Duquenoy of KCP as non-executive director.

“We are delighted to have KCP on board for the new stage of Jellyfish’s ambitious journey,” Dobree said. “We have seen an unprecedented demand for our services over the last year, and this investment allows us to accelerate the company’s growth, providing our clients and partners with the technical and creative resources to continue to bring compelling, award-winning work to the screen.”

Duquenoy added, “This is an exciting time for the creative TV and film industry in the U.K., and we are thrilled to be working with such an innovative business to enable even greater growth.”
