AMSTERDAM: Dutch network Sport1 has secured the exclusive broadcast rights for Spain’s La Liga soccer competition.

The pickup includes rights to live broadcasts and extended highlights on TV and broadband internet. At least six league games will be televised for each round, with all matches streamed live on Sport1’s online platform.

Will Moerer, Sport1’s VP, stated: “Our subscribers seem to enjoy Spanish league matches more than anything else, apart from the UEFA European Champions League. I am delighted that, as a result of this deal, we will continue to be able to broadcast the games played by the likes of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Our subscribers will be equally pleased that we have not only managed to extend the rights to the UEFA Champions League by three years but also that we hold the rights to various other European competitions—meaning that they will be assured of top-class soccer at the highest level for years to come.”
