LONDON: Endemol Shine International has entered into a scripted development and first‐look distribution deal with Shoebox TV, the newly formed television arm of Shoebox Films.

The film production company belonging to the producers Paul Webster (Pan, Atonement, Eastern Promises), Guy Heeley (Locke, London Spy), and the director Joe Wright (Pan, Atonement, Anna Karenina). Shoebox TV has been set up by Shoebox Films to produce high-end scripted television.

Shoebox’s head of development, Ed Clarke, will lead the new company and will drive the expanding TV slate. Shoebox TV is already in advanced discussions on projects with broadcasters and funded development on one television series.

“Shoebox’s move into TV has been an entirely organic process driven by the talent that we work with looking to explore longer form stories better suited to the medium. As a company we get excited by fantastic writing, great characters, and complex drama, and nowhere is that more prevalent these days than on television,” said Clarke.

“We could ask for no better collaborators than Endemol Shine, whom we are thrilled will be accompanying us on the journey. We are both committed to making quality, commercial television for the British and international market,” said Webster.

“It was always a question of when rather than if we would get involved. A film company setting up a TV arm is hardly a surprise these days, but we are genuinely energised by the creative opportunities that television affords,” added Heeley.

“The credits of Shoebox’s principals speak for themselves and we are excited to be working with them in bringing their distinctive brand of quality drama to television,” said Cathy Payne, the chief executive of Endemol Shine International.
