PARIS: Eurosport has secured the exclusive TV and digital rights for the FA Cup in Germany until the 2017-18 season.

The pact includes live, delayed, highlights and news rights, as well as sublicensing rights. It also includes exclusive rights to the FA Community Shield, which brings together the previous season’s FA Cup and Premier League winners. The channel’s broadcast kicks off this Sunday, February 15, at 1:15 p.m. with Aston Villa against Leicester City, followed by Arsenal against Middlesbrough at 5 p.m. on Eurosport 2.

Jean-Thierry Augustin, the CEO of the Eurosport Group, said: “We are very pleased to further increase our football coverage with the addition of such an extensive and exclusive agreement for Germany. It underlines Eurosport’s strategic ability to deliver strong content and key rights on a local level as well as internationally. This deal is another demonstration of our regional approach after the recent signing of the MotoGP rights for the German market.”

Susanne Aigner-Drews, the managing director of Eurosport Media in Munich, added: "Following the acquisition of rights to the MotoGP, the FA Cup is another high-end sports right to be broadcast on the Eurosport channels in the German-speaking region. The FA Cup is a football classic and an audience blockbuster. We are pleased to offer this attractive content to our German audience.”
