WARSAW/NEW YORK: The FilmBox Premium channel in the Czech Republic and Slovakia—rebranding from FilmBox Extra this December—has licensed a host of theatrical features from NBCUniversal.

The deal between FilmBox Premium's parent company, SPI International, and NBCUniversal covers more than 20 theatrical releases from 2012, among them Les Miserables, Big Miracle and Ted. The deal covers a total of 80 titles. Other releases in the package deal include The Five Year Engagement, ParaNorman and The Bourne Legacy.

“We are very proud to have accomplished this deal, as the addition of NBCUniversal’s powerful content will significantly strengthen the competitive edge of the FilmBox Premium, our flagship movie channel in the Czech Republic and Slovakia,” said Berk Uziyel, executive director of Filmbox International.

FilmBox Extra becomes FilmBox Premium in the Czech Republic and Slovakia on December 1. The new name will be applied to the channel in other Central and Eastern European markets at a later date. “We want to make sure that our subscribers have total clarity as to which one of our numerous channels carries the most recent movie premieres and new TV series,” Uziyel said.
