Sky Deutschland Posts First Quarterly Net Profit in Seven Years

UNTERFÖHRING: Sky Deutschland reported a first-quarter net profit of 12.3 million euros ($15.4 million), with nearly 100,000 new subscribers.

The German pay-TV company marked its first quarterly profit since 2007. However, Brian Sullivan, CEO, warned that Sky Deutschland will have more loss-making quarters before posting annual net profit.

He commented: “This quarter marks a number of important milestones at Sky. We have once again delivered strong customer and EBITDA growth, as well as a positive net income, as more and more customers are enjoying our outstanding offering. High-quality exclusive content, continuous innovation and a great customer experience are the pillars of our sustained success. We’ve also just unveiled the next wave of exciting new services, Sky Online and Sky On Demand, which bring a whole new level of choice, flexibility and control to our existing and future customers. There has never been a better time to be a Sky customer.”

Revenues for its first fiscal quarter were up 10 percent year-on-year to 431 million euros ($538 million), with growth led by an increase in the customer base. The service added a net 96,000 subs in the quarter, for a total of 3.9 million. ARPU was stable at around 34 euros ($42.45) per month. HD users increased by 75,000 to 2.3 million. Sky+ users increased by 105,000 to 1.8 million. Sky GO customer sessions were up 43 percent year-on-year to 26 million.
