The Returned, Breaking Bad Top The Guardian’s List of Best TV of 2013

LONDON: The Guardian's critics have made their selections for the top 30 best TV programs of 2013 broadcast in the U.K., giving the number one spot to the French drama The Returned, which aired on Channel 4.

Breaking Bad, which streamed in the U.K. on Netflix, ranked second. Another Channel 4 show, Utopia, came in third, followed by Game of Thrones, which aired on Sky Atlantic, and Broadchurch on ITV.

Netflix's Orange Is the New Black just missed the top 5. Channel 4's comedic drama Fresh Meat was number seven on the list, followed by Jane Campion's Top of the Lake on BBC Two and Borgen on BBC Four. The Fall, which also aired on BBC Two, rounds out the top 10.

Notable shows in the top 20 include Gogglebox (Channel 4), Ripper Street (BBC One), Southcliffe (Channel 4), Peaky Blinders (BBC Two) and Educating Yorkshire (Channel 4). The top 30 featured a handful of U.S. shows, including Veep (Sky Atlantic), Eastbound and Down (FOX), 30 Rock (Comedy Central), Boardwalk Empire (Sky Atlantic) and The Good Wife (More4).
