Liberty Global Appoints MD for CEE Region

AMSTERDAM: Liberty Global has made some organizational changes to its Central and Eastern European operations, including Betzalel Kenigsztein, currently the managing director of UPC Hungary, becoming the managing director for the CEE region.

Kenigsztein will be reporting to Diederik Karsten, the executive VP of Liberty Global’s European broadband operations. In this role, Kenigsztein will be responsible for the CEE region, including Poland, Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the DTH activities in the region.

Severina Pascu, currently the managing director of UPC Romania, is appointed managing director of UPC Hungary. She will combine this position with her role as managing director of UPC Romania.

Karsten commented: “Both Betzalel Kenigsztein and Severina Pascu are ideally positioned to take their new roles for the CEE region and UPC Hungary and UPC Romania, respectively.

"Betzalel is ideally positioned to take this new role with 25 years of experience in the cable industry and a proven track record at Liberty Global. In 2004, Betzalel joined the company as CTO of UPC Netherlands leading a crucial phase of innovation of the UPC Netherlands network. In 2009 he was appointed CEO of UPC Hungary, a position he has held successfully since then. Before his time at UPC he held a range of senior management positions in the Israeli cable industry.

"Severina Pascu is also very experienced and was appointed managing director of UPC Romania in 2011 from her previous role as CFO for UPC Romania since 2008. As the MD of UPC Romania, she stabilized the operations and led it back to growth in the last year. Before her positions at UPC she worked as director [of] corporate finance for CAIB Romania, one of the leading investment banks in central Europe, and in other positions in Romania and the U.K. for American cable company Metromedia International and for KPMG."
