LONDON: David Mortimer has been tapped to fill the newly created role of senior VP of factual and entertainment at NBCUniversal International Television Production, based in London.

Effective May 13, Mortimer will report to Michael Edelstein, the president of international television production, and Sarah Cooper, the recently installed COO. Mortimer is a former BBC creative and development head, having worked across factual, factual entertainment and entertainment. He previously served as the managing director of the indie producer Fever Media.

Cooper said, “David Mortimer is a formidable and respected television executive with a comprehensive understanding of unscripted content. With his background as both a commissioner and producer, he brings the full range of skills and experience to the team and will be charged with doubling NBCUniversal’s unscripted business over the next five years and creating global unscripted hits within our extensive portfolio of top quality programming.”

Mortimer added, “I’ve loved the adventure of launching and running my own independent production company, but the opportunity to join NBCUniversal was just too exciting a proposition to turn down. NBCUniversal is an amazing company with great talent, a strong local presence in the U.K., Australia and Canada, alongside an impressive portfolio of channels in the U.S. I believe NBCUniversal is uniquely positioned to grow a strong unscripted business around the globe and I want to make its U.K. base a center for the kind of creative collaborations that lead to globally successful shows. It’s going to be fun and I know we’re going to make some great television!”
