LONDON: Mockumentary filmmaker Christopher Guest and Irish actor Chris O’Dowd are on board for Family Tree, a new doc-style comedy series for BBC Two and HBO.

The eight-part half-hour comedy will be similar to other mockumentaries from Guest, such as This is Spinal Tap and Best in Show. The series will star Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids), who plays a man trying to find himself after losing his job and coming out of a relationship. Guest and executive producer Jim Piddock will also make appearances on the show.

Family Tree is being produced by Guest, Piddock and Karen Murphy. It will air on HBO in the U.S. and on BBC Two in the U.K. The series will be screened in 2013.

Chris Sussman, BBC’s executive editor, commented: "We are all ludicrously excited about the opportunity to work with Christopher Guest…. He has British roots but this is his first ever project over here, and we are very pleased to have it on the BBC."
