ZURICH: The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has taken over the marketing, planning and organization of the Rose d’Or Festival brand following a restructure within Ringier’s entertainment division, and will move the event to a new venue, in Lucerne.

Ringier took over Rose d’Or in 2009 from Freddy Burger Management. The marketing rights are now controlled by the EBU, which is in charge of organizing the next festival in Brussels. The festival has been held in Lucerne since 2004, and before that was in Montreux.

Marc Walder, the CEO of Ringier, said: “Ringier was able to position the Rose d’Or again as what it is—one of the most important entertainment television festivals in the world. The European Broadcasting Union can now offer this event the perfect platform for a great future. And I’m delighted about that.”

Ingrid Deltenre, the EBU’s director general, added: “The Rose d’Or Festival encapsulates quality and innovative entertainment values which are at the heart of public service broadcasting. The EBU is very excited to have acquired the Rose d’Or Festival and looks forward to bringing the event to a large European audience.”
