LONDON: Leopard Films, a division of Argonon, has tied up an international theatrical distribution deal for Swan Lake 3D, while Leopardrama is under way on developing a new feature-film project.

Argonon’s drama division, Leopardrama, is developing the new feature-film project Mother of Sorrows with British screenwriter and director Terence Davies. The team is adapting Richard McCann’s novel Mother of Sorrows for theatrical release. Davies, who most recently directed the The Deep Blue Sea, is working with Leopardrama to deliver scripts by the end of March. Development funding was secured from the European Union’s Media Fund.

In addition, Leopard Films’ Swan Lake 3D, which recently aired on Sky Arts 3D and is due to appear in theaters across the U.K. soon, has been picked up for international theatrical distribution by More2Screen for release across more than 600 theaters.

Mother of Sorrows’ executive producer, Joey Attawia of Argonon, commented: “Mother of Sorrows is a hugely exciting project which underlines Argonon’s ambition to work with the finest talent in the international film industry. Argonon has a reputation for delivering high quality programming and we aim to build on the global success of our award-winning features The Holding and An Englishman in New York to create a unique piece.”

Davies said: “It is wonderful to be working with Joey Attawia, Leopardrama and Argonon on this project. This is an important story because it touches the humanity in all of us. I love the delicacy of the book and its gentle odyssey from post-World War 2 optimism for the American utopia to a deeper understanding of both maternal and filial love and an acceptance of mortality by surrendering to the light."

James Burstall, the CEO of Argonon, added, “Swan Lake is a visually spectacular film and the big screen offers the ideal platform for this epic piece. We are delighted to partner with More2Screen so that millions of arts and ballet fans across the world can now enjoy this ground-breaking 3D film.”
