PARIS: Novavision has set up an acquisitions department, to be run by Charlene Calmano, who will report to François-Xavier Poirier, the president and CEO of the company.

The number of international rights holders supplying Novavision with content has almost doubled in the past year, to 16 at the end of 2011. Recent acquisitions include Mad Pursuit and Robbery, based on footage of police chases and incidents captured on surveillance cameras. After buying game show formats The QuizZz and The Prize of Surprise, which are being co-produced with local partners in Sri Lanka and India, the company launched into the field of non-verbal animation with Pop Toons. The company’s flagship show, Pop Corn TV, comprised of 400 episodes, has been sold to 240 broadcasters worldwide.

“With the creation of our own acquisitions department, Novavision is moving up a gear in terms of seeking out new content and developing new shows, which responds to our clients’ demands,” said Poirier. “For example, we have just bought 600 hours of amazing extreme sports clips in HD, which means we now own the world’s biggest catalogue in that category.”
