LONDON: Zodiak Rights and Arise Pictures have revealed details for The Cleaners, the first scripted series under the first-look finance and distribution partnership between the two companies.

In The Cleaners, the CIA is working with illegal money launderers who are bringing money out of the Middle East as part of an elaborate plan to change the region’s regime. Casting is currently taking place for the 10×60-minute first season, with production slated to kick off later in the year. Arise Pictures is producing the action/thriller series alongside Arcadia Motion Pictures and Propulsion Pictures, among other co-pro partners yet to be announced.

Caroline Torrance, the head of scripted at Zodiak Rights, commented: “This new drama could not be more topical after the recent leak of the Panama Papers, highlighting how and where heads of state hide their money around the world. It’s a highly commercial show, exploring relevant international themes with engaging intimate characters at its core.”

“We’re using the incredible locations of the Canary Islands and mainland Spain to double for much of the Middle East,” added Ibon Cormenzana, the CEO of Arcadia Motion Pictures. “We’ve got some exceptional crews who are gearing up for quite a thrill ride. It’s always fun working on a show that’s very Bond-esq.”
