MADRID/LONDON: Walter Presents has secured exclusive rights to the thriller Locked Up (Vis a Vis) from Imagina International Sales in its first Spanish acquisition.

The non-English-language drama service run by Global Series Network (GSN) and Channel 4 will bring the series, which is set in a Spanish women’s prison, to U.K. audiences. Produced by Globomedia for Antena 3, Locked Up follows Macarena Ferreiro, who is framed by her lover for corporate fraud and sent to a high-security women’s prison that houses ruthless criminals. When her only friend in the prison is brutally murdered, Macarena is implicated in a multimillion-dollar hold-up that could change her life.

Locked Up originally aired on Antena 3 in Spain. It drew 4.3 million viewers and a 22.4 percent share. The second season of the show was released last week. Locked Up will be one of the first Spanish fiction titles to air in the U.K.

Jason Thorp, the CEO of GSN, commented, “We are delighted to have made Locked Up our first Spanish acquisition. The quality of drama production is rapidly on the up in Southern Europe and Locked Up is a great example of that. We believe we’ve picked up an exceptional piece of television that British viewers will love.”
