ZDF Enterprises, Nucleus Media Rights and 3zero2 have signed a co-production deal for the eight-episode crime drama Body of Water.

The series is created by Brendan Foley (Cold CourageJohnny Was), based on an original concept by 3Zero2’s Fabio Resinaro. In Body of Water, two bodies are found—one in London’s River Thames, one in the canals of Venice—three years apart, both with mysterious markings on their skin. The story follows a male British detective, obsessed with his unsolved river murder, as he searches for similarities in the Venice death while butting up against a young Italian female investigator who is determined to make a name for herself by solving the case alone.

Foley will write and serve as showrunner. Producers are Piero Crispino (3zero2) and Bruno Zarka (Nucleus Media). Production is expected to start in 2021, shot in Venice and London, for a release in late 2022.

Body of Water is an exceptional project which will appeal to a global audience. We are very proud to bring this exciting show to the market,” said Robert Franke, VP ZDFE.drama at ZDF Enterprises.

“Soon after reading Fabio Resinaro’s idea, I immediately thought that Body of Water had a great potential. This was soon to be confirmed by our partnership with Nucleus Media Rights and now by the co-production deal with a such prestigious player as ZDF Enterprises,” said Piero Crispino, founder and CEO of 3Zero2. “I’m also delighted that Brendan Foley has stepped into the project with his unique talent to turn the original idea into an extraordinary series for the international audience.”

“It’s a thrill to be producing this exciting series with such great partners as ZDFE and 3zero2,” added Bruno Zarka, CEO of Nucleus Media Rights. “And with Brendan Foley as showrunning helm, we could not be in better hands for this incredible series.”
