Wednesday Renewed for Second Season

Netflix has ordered a second season of its record-breaking series Wednesday, centered on The Addams Family’s iconic teenage daughter.

Season one, which debuted in November 2022, has been seen by more than 182 million households since its debut, with 1.237 billion hours viewed within its first 28 days. It broke the record for the most hours viewed in a week for an English-language TV series on Netflix in its first and second weeks.

Wednesday has also had six consecutive weeks with over 100 million hours viewed on the English TV list. Its impact has reached into other areas as well. The series’ soundtrack reached number one on the iTunes Soundtrack chart and, on Spotify, Wednesday Addams, the artist, has over 1 million followers. Also on Spotify, “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps, the song which Wednesday dances to, saw a streaming increase of more than 9,500 percent. The dance scene has gone viral across social media in its own right, with fan-generated content using “Blood Mary” by Lady Gaga, leading to a streaming increase of more than 1,800 percent of the song on Spotify.

Additionally, Wednesday’s makeup look has been searched for and viewed over 100 million times on TikTok, and Wednesday products have been selling out at retailers such as Hot Topic, MAC and Cakeworthy.

The series is produced by MGM Television, with Tim Burton directing and executive producing. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are showrunners, executive producers and writers. Other executive producers are Steve Stark (Toluca Pictures), Andrew Mittman (1.21 Entertainment), Kevin Miserocchi (Tee and Charles Addams Foundation), Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman (Glickmania), Gail Berman, Tommy Harper and Kevin Lafferty.

“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world,” Gough and Millar told Tudum.com. “Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
